2017 Fellows Medallion Dinner and New Committee Members
18 Aug 2017
An inspiring group of returned Fellows graced the RACV club in Melbourne's CBD to be awarded Churchill medallions and describe to an enthralled audience their overseas Churchill Fellowship journey and plans to continue it back in Australia.
The evening began with a passionate 'Welcome to Country' by 2014 Fellow Uncle Bill Nicholson, who was also the first speaker of the evening.
Bill's infectious energy set the tone of the evening. From projects aimed at helping youths in the criminal justice system, to fellowships advancing the medical and emergency services fields, to a project aimed at providing therapeutic 'green spaces' in hospitals, each speaker shared the committment, passion and public service ideal at the heart of the Churchill Fellowship program.
The Chair of the Victorian Regional Panel and 2003 Fellow Dr Jane Munro flagged that the prospective 2017-18 Churchill Fellows, who the panel had recently finished interviewing, were as inspiring as always.
Ben Nicholson (2008 Fellow) also chaired the Churchill Fellows Association Victoria's AGM, with a number of changes to the CFAV's constitution accepted with unanimous support.
The CFAV was also thrilled to confirm the comittee's incoming President, 2007 Fellow Anne Hooker, who will replace the tireless Ben Nicholson. Ben also thanked the 2016-17 committee for their contribution, while Anne welcomed new members De Riddington and Nick McKenzie (both 2015 Fellows) onto the committee.
Ben's passion and committment is a reminder that a Fellows' work truly begins when they return home and bein to build on and share what they have learned.
Upcoming events include the Churchill Canberra tour and the 2017 Award presentations, which will be made at Government House on the morning of Friday 3 November 2017.
